A laboratory model is designed for fundamental proofing of the solution concept but is not optimized as product yet. Following the acceptance of the suggested solution concept the adopted design will be realized in the form of a laboratory model and then tested. Typical components of a laboratory model are:
- The mechanical system.
- Sensors and their measurement chains (signal conditioning, filtering, etc.).
- Actuators and intervention means together with their drivers and power electronics.
- Real-time computers, interfaces and the software applications for the measurements, system identification and controller implementation.
- Software tools for system analysis and controller synthesis.
